Caregiving and Red Tape in Napa, California

_**SJCRG: Well, it now illegal in Napa to give care without passing a background check and paying a fee to the city of course. **According to the Napa Valley Register, "County prosecutors and senior citizen advocates introduced…" Senior citizen advocates indeed, it will now cost :"…$90 in the first year, $79 for the second year and $67 annually thereafter. The permit costs $20 annually, paid to the county Clerk-Recorder's Office…."   Was the Napa local government salivating at what, in fact, is a tax levied on the caregivers? Fact is many caregivers are family members of the care recipient, who are now required to pay up annual fees. Fact is such family members are often on the low income side, but hey, the daughter caregiving her father might have criminal intents.._

Taxing the Family Caregiver? Shame!

_This all started with a criminal case of a private caregiver, Diane Warrick's recent sentencing for fatally stabbing a 70-year-old woman in her care. Warrick was hired from Craig's list as are many such private caregivers. So, requiring a background check before hiring is reasonnable.  But for family members, a yearly fee for the license and a yearly background check?….Government just got bigger in the never ending disguise of patient protection. _
