A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Health Resources and Services Administration looked at developmental disabilities in U.S. children for a 12-year period. Key findings are that about 1 out of 6 U.S. children have a developmental disability. This is a 17.1 percent increase form 1997 to 2008. The study points to the increasing need for health, education and social services, and more specialized health services for people with developmental disabilities.
