SCI: Spinal Cord Injury affect the brain’s organization and rehabilitation.

_**WHN:**_ Bringing you A study published in [physiologyonline][1]

The paper's abstract goes like this:

"Brain maps i show that brain reorganize in response to deafferentation by peripheral nerve cut, amputations, or spinal lesions. Mechanisms underlying these changes may range from altered tonic inhibition and synaptic efficacy to neuronal sprouting. An understanding of these mechanisms could guide interventions that potentiate recovery from such injuries.."

Note:_ deafferentiation is not a typo_: It is "A loss of the sensory input from a portion of the body, usually caused by interruption of the peripheral sensory fibers" (medilexicon

WHN: What does all this reorganization  mean for the SCI person?

* Good: Such reorganization might promote recovery of some of the complex functions of the combination spinal cord - brain. Keep in mind that spinal cord can spinal cord learn and remember, as shown by this other study published in s[cientificworld ][2]
* Bad: Phamtom limb sensations, etc.

So , well, more research is needed in that area.
