DOJ Settles Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Lawsuit with Michigan's Henry Ford Health System

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has reached a settlement with the Henry Ford Health System to provide effective communication for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing when receiving medical services. The company did not provide sign language interpreters to a deaf patient and his family members. The [ADA][1] prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities by hospitals. The ADA also requires doctors, hospitals and other health care providers to provide equal access to patients and companions who are deaf or hard of hearing.
