Modesto Retailer Settles Disability Discrimination Suit

Buy Rite Thrift has agreed to pay $50,000 to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged Buy Rite with illegally firing an employee who has epilepsy after having mild seizures at work. Instead of asking the employee to take a fitness exam or provide medical documentation that he was fit to work, the store fired him. Under the [**Americans with Disabilities Act**][1], employers must provide reasonable accommodations to an employee with a disability, unless it causes significant difficulty or expense for the employer.
