Social Security Trust Fund Now Projected to Be Exhausted by 2033

The Social Security Board of Trustees has released its annual [report][1] on the financial status of the Social Security Trust Funds. The combined assets of the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) Trust Funds will run out by 2033, three years sooner than last year's estimate. The DI Trust Fund will run out in 2016, two years earlier than last year's projection. OASDI program costs are also expected to exceed the non-interest income in 2012 and remain higher over the remainder of the 75-year period. This information is also in [PDF][2] format.
