The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged Vitas Health Care Corporation with disability discrimination when it failed to provide reasonable accommodations to an employee when she became unable to perform her job because of her hypertension. Instead of moving to her a vacant position, Vitas required her to compete for the job with other applicants, and then did not select her. Under the [Americans with Disabilities Act][1], employers must provide [reasonable accommodations][2] to an employee with a disability, unless it causes significant difficulty or expense for the employer.
