Pioneer Place Assisted Living Settles EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

An assisted living and nursing home facility in Vale, OR, agreed to pay $80,000 and apologize to a job applicant with epilepsy to resolve a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Pioneer Place Assisted Living refused to hire the applicant for a cook position because she failed to pass a drug test even though she mentioned that she had epilepsy and was taking a prescription medication that would show up on the test. The [Americans with Disabilities Act][1] prohibits employers from using selection standards or criteria that screen out people with disabilities.
