HUD Settles Housing Discrimination Lawsuit Involving Tenant with Disabilities

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has reached a settlement agreement with a landlord of a HUD-assisted townhome complex. A resident who uses a wheelchair and walker filed a complaint that the complex management failed to accommodate her request to move to the first available ground-floor unit. She also claimed that her requests were denied for a parking space and a ramp. Under the [Fair Housing Act][1] it is unlawful to refuse reasonable accommodations that would allow a person with a disability to fully enjoy their home.
